Some of the measures being considered include the banning of the sale of tobacco products to citizens born after a certain year, increasing tobacco duty, regulating the addictive ingredients of tobacco products and expanding no-smoking areas. In announcing the consultation exercise, the Health Secretary Lo Chung-mau says he hopes the measures can help reduce Hong Kong's smoking rate to 7.8 percent by 2025. Members of the public have until the end of September to submit their views.
